Registration and Interview Process


How much does it cost to sign up with Alpha?

There is no cost to you at all! We are a free service that provides temporary, temp to perm and permanent job opportunities.

I submitted my resume. What should I do next?

After submitting your resume through our website, our team of recruiters will review your qualifications and experience to best match you with a current opening. If a good match is found, a recruiter will schedule a personal interview with you. In some cases, you may be interviewed because of your outstanding qualities even though no current positions matching your qualifications are available at the time. However, we do receive new employment positions daily, so your updated and current information is needed to facilitate successful employment.

What do I need to bring to my Alpha interview?

Please bring your two forms of identification and an updated resume.

What two IDs should I have in order to prove my identity and employment eligibility?

Two forms of a government issued ID. One ID needs to include a picture (driver's license) and the other needs to prove U.S. citizenship, such as a birth certificate, passport, or social security card.

Can I bring copies of my ID's or do I need to bring the originals?

Only original ID's are acceptable in order for us to verify information needed for E-Verify.

What should I wear for my Alpha interview?

Professional appearance is recommended to make a good first impression.

How much time will the registration and interview process take?

The entire process takes between an hour to an hour & a half.

What tests will I need to take as part of the registration process?

We will test for proficiency on different programs according to your capabilities. Such tests may include MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Will I have to take a drug test when I apply at The Alpha Group

Yes, The Alpha Group administers a 13-panel drug screen to all light industrial candidates and requires a complete pass of that drug screen in order to be considered for employment. Despite the new Massachusetts law effective December 15, 2016, which states that recreational marijuana will be a legal state law, employers have the option to follow the Federal Law as well as follow a chapter in the Massachusetts state law statute that includes an employment provision. Our company policy is to remain in alignment with the Federal Laws which lists marijuana as a controlled substance.

How long will I have to wait for employment?

We cannot guarantee a time frame on an available job which matches your skill set. We will keep your file on active status until you tell us otherwise. We will notify you of appropriate positions in a timely manner.

Why doesn't anyone call me about jobs?

Here at The Alpha Group we take pride in finding you the perfect job opportunity. If you don’t hear from us immediately, that just means the right position has not become available yet. We encourage you to view our current openings listed on our website, and feel free to contact us if you see something that appeals to you. Once we do have a position that matches all of the qualities you are seeking in your next career move we will contact you immediately.

Should I stop looking for work after I register?

The Alpha Group encourages our candidates to continue their own job search after registering with us. It is a very competitive job market and it is always in your best interest to keep your options open and continue to seek employment through various avenues.

How do I check in for work?

Applicants should check in weekly. Call us at (508) 285-8500 to inform the staff regarding any changes in contact information or if you have found work elsewhere. Or, you can check in on our website (www.thealphagroup.com). Select “Contact Alpha” in the upper-right-hand corner and enter your information to check in.

Why do I get texts about jobs that I don't want?

When you initially register with us there is an option to sign up for text messaging. If you decide to receive text messages we will send details on current job openings to see if you are interested. If you are not, you can simply disregard the message. You can stop receiving future text messages at any time by simply contacting us to opt out. 

Do you offer a referral program?

Yes. If you are currently available for work, are working for us, or have gone Temp-Hire through The Alpha Group, then you are eligible for our referral program. You are eligible for a $20 gift if the referred candidate is placed out to work at one position, successfully completes a week of work, and follows the Alpha Group, Inc. code of conduct outlined in The Alpha Group, Inc. employee handbook. You will receive the referral bonus for each applicant you refer to us and we place.

Are the job postings fake?

No, absolutely not. All of our job postings are actual positons our client companies are looking to fill. We do our best to consistently update our website to ensure all of the postings are current, and reflect any jobs that may have been filled during the week. Pay-per-click advertising can be extremely costly - it would not be to our benefit to keep fake postings online. We pride ourselves in providing a wide range of opportunities for our candidates, and we do our best to ensure these opportunities are appropriately reflected online.


After Employment Begins


How much pay should I expect from an assignment?

Most job descriptions on the website will give a wage expectation. If you have further questions, do not hesitate to ask a recruiter.

What time will you call me for last minute assignments?

If you opt to be on the daily call list, we will notify you as soon as we know of an opening and expect you to arrive in the client's time frame.

What should I do if I cannot work due to illness, a personal issue or I need to leave early?

If you need to leave in case of an emergency, you must inform a recruiter. This will allow the recruiter to find a substitute for the client and keep you in good standing. Communication is essential for success.

When will my temporary-to-permanent job assignment transition to permanent?

Transition time depends on the client's needs, but on average, transitions have taken place after 90 days. Plans and expectations are frequently set before a position is filled, allowing you to prepare accordingly.

Will I be eligible for health insurance?

Employees must work a minimum of 1,560 hours in a 12 month measurement period from your anniversary date and a 30 day waiting period, you may be eligible for Health & Dental Insurance.The anniversary date is the date of your first day on assignment with The Alpha Group, Inc.  However, if a break in active employment of 30 days or more occurs, a new anniversary date and a new 12month measurement period may be determined for the eligibility of Health & Dental Insurance.


Payroll Questions


How are work hours submitted each week?


To ensure timely receipt of your paycheck, please submit your signed and completed time sheet by 9:00 a.m. on Monday following that work week. You may drop the time sheet off at the office during working hours, at the drop box on the front of the building, fax them to 508-285-7116, or email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Is direct deposit available?


Yes!  The Alpha Group offers Direct Deposit and Debit Pay Cards for your convenience.  If you would like to take advantage of this great benefit, please call our payroll department or download the request forms from our website at http://thealphagroup.com/employee-documents/employee-documents.


Note:
Direct deposited funds will go into your account on Fridays. Please be aware that financial institutions vary in criteria for accessing those funds, so be sure to check with your account provider.

When are paychecks available?


Pay day is Friday! If you receive a live check each week you can opt to have it held for pick up on Fridays or mailed to your house. However, in order to ensure timely receipt of your pay check, we recommend signing up for Direct Deposit or our Pay Card. Any check not picked up by 5:00 p.m. on Fridays will be mailed, and would cause a delay in receiving your funds. Direct Deposits are processed Friday mornings so you avoid the hassle of taking your check to the bank, paying check-cashing fees, and instead have your pay check easily accessible.


Can someone else pick up a paycheck/stub on my behalf?


The Alpha Group requires that you inform us in writing of the name of the person you are authorizing to access your check. Paychecks / stubs will not be given to any person other than the employee without prior written consent. We highly recommend utilizing Direct Deposit or our Pay Card to avoid any potential security issues.


My paycheck was mailed to me, but I have not received it. What are my options?


The Alpha Group has no control over delivery schedules of the U.S. Postal Service. If your check was mailed, allow seven mail delivery days for it be delivered to you. To reissue a check before seven days, we must first have you fill out a Stop Payment Authorization Form. We require a 24-hour waiting period before we can reissue a check, and there will be a $15 stop payment fee. We will waive the $15 fee if you sign up for direct deposit or a pay card, as these provide the easiest options for you to receive your check each week. A check will only be reissued after a request is made in writing, authorizing us to put a stop payment on the original check. You may not cash the original check after a stop payment has been placed on it.
