Protect Your Back While You're at Work

It's the only one you have!

It's Monday morning. My back is aching. I spent Saturday sitting on an airplane, sitting outside in the cold at a sporting event, then sitting on an airplane to fly home. Sunday I cleaned out, organized, and rearranged my home office. Now I sit behind my desk at work typing on my computer. All the lifting, carrying, and moving furniture and items, combined with sitting for long periods of time, took a toll on my back. So it's fitting that I am now writing about protecting your back. Whether it's at work or home, there are several ways to protect your back.

Providing Support to Employers and Employees When Employee is in the Reserve or National Guard

If you're an employer who has an employee in the Reserve or National Guard you may struggle trying to determine how to make their time away, serving our country, work for all involved - your business, the employee, and their family.

You're ready to fill a position, now you need to decide if you will go the direct hire or temp-to-perm route - which is the best route for you?

Being a staffing agency, we often receive the question from our clients, "Is it better to hire an employee as a permanent (direct hire) or temp-to-perm employee?" As with so many things in business, the answer is, "It depends." I sat down with Jessica Kegler, our sales manager, to get her thoughts on this. Let's see and listen to what she has to say about this topic.

4 Tips for Holiday Shopping on a Shoestring Budget

Thanksgiving is over. Christmas is only two weeks away. The race to finish your holiday shopping is on! Are you ready? Or do you still have more shopping to do?

Are you trying not to break the bank, while still finding the perfect gifts? Are you working on a shoestring budget? Have no fear - you can still find great gifts and stay within your budget.

Have you ever been in a situation where there was a job to be done, but no one did it? No one stepped up to the plate and made it happen. Then everyone started pointed fingers and blaming everyone else for the failure.

Take a moment and ask why this happened. What could have been done to make sure the job was completed? Was it that everyone thought someone else would take care of it? Was there a lack of leadership, clarity, or communication of who was to do what? Was is it similar to Charles’ Osgood’s “The Responsibility Poem?”

It's Done! The overtime rule has been finalized. Effective January 1, 2020 the new rate will take effect. Refer to the infographic to help you better understand the changes.

Soft Skills: Definitions and Examples

Soft skills are personality traits and behaviors. Unlike technical or “hard” skills, soft skills are not about the knowledge you possess but rather behaviors you display in different situations.

Let a tough problem marinate overnight.

Write it down before you go to bed. Let your mind turn it over, and then write more in the morning.

Who used this method? Thomas Edison. He once said: “Never go to sleep without a request to your subconscious.”
